Only Members of the Family Liliacea Are True Lilies.

While many plants are commonly referred to as lilies, only members of the family Liliacea are true lilies. Calla Lilies are one example of “false lilies” — these plants actually belong to the family Araceae. True lilies have 6 separate petals, while Calla Lilies feature a single white, petal-like spathe.
